After the cold of winter I'm ready for some bright, funky flowers made from polymer clay.
Supplies: polymer clay (leftover scraps would be fine.), liquid polymer clay, wire (I used steel wire, about 3-4 inches per flower), wire cutter, round nose pliers, a 1 inch cookie cutter
Step 1: Make a loop at the top of the wire.
Step 2: bend that loop forward.
The actual order in which you do these steps doesn't matter. You just need to have these ready.
Step 3: Cut out a circle of clay with your cookie cutter. This is the base of your flower.
Step 4: Make a small circle of clay and flatten it. This will be your center.
Step 5: Make a circle of green clay a little bigger than the center color of your flower. Flatten it.
This is the back of your flower.
Step 5: Making surer that the bent loop of the wire will be at the top, insert the wire through the center of the flower. Add a little bit of liquid polymer clay.
Step 6: Because wire does not normally adhere to the clay we cover the liquid polymer clay with the center of the flower. The liquid clay will help the wire to adhere to the clay.
Step 7: Turn the flower over and add more polymer clay to the back near the wire.
Step 8: Slide the green clay down he wire. Add a small amount of the liquid clay. Cover the liquid clay with the green clay.
Bake according to manufacturer's directions.
I usually bake these, covered with aluminum foil, for 20 minutes.
The temperature depends on the type of clay you use.
Since the clay is soft when warm and the wire is hot, I would suggest that you let these flowers cool in the oven.
You can bake them in a pan of baking soda so they don't change shape.
It's a great way to use of leftover clay. These flowers are fun and funky!
